Software That Adjusts to Your Business

Words: Erin Koets

Every masonry contractor tracks something a little different. One company tracks cost to install a unit. Another tracks material waste by job. A third needs to flag which crew members have a certification coming up for renewal. None of that shows up as a standard field in most field management software, because most software is built to cover only what every company has in common: time, cost, job progress.

So that information goes somewhere else. A spreadsheet nobody else opens. A notebook that lives in the truck. A sticky note on the office monitor. That works fine, until it doesn't. The spreadsheet doesn't get checked one week. The notebook gets left behind. And the one detail that actually mattered- a certification that expired last month, a rate change nobody flagged- slips through the cracks.

CrewTracks built Custom Fields to close that gap.

How It Works
Custom Fields let a company add its own tracked information directly into CrewTracks, right alongside the timecards, daily reports, and job data it's already collecting. A contractor can build a field for anything specific to how they run their business: a certification expiration date, an equipment inspection date, a customer-specific requirement, a billing rate per unit that generic software has no place for. Those fields attach to jobs, employees, or customers, whichever fits the information being tracked, and show up in the same system everyone is already using every day.

Nothing about this requires a developer or a custom build. A contractor sets up the fields that matter to their business, and from that point forward, that information lives inside CrewTracks instead of somewhere off to the side.

Why It Matters
The real cost of a second, unofficial tracking system isn't just the time it takes to maintain. It's what happens when nobody checks it. A missed certification renewal can mean a worker on-site who shouldn't be. A missed equipment inspection can mean downtime nobody saw coming. A rate change that never made it out of someone's notebook can mean a job that was quoted or billed wrong. When that information lives inside the same system as everything else, it gets seen by the people who need to see it, when they need to see it.

This also means a company's software can grow and change with the business instead of requiring a costly custom build every time something new comes up. Some companies solve this problem by paying for custom software, which can work, but tends to run up a serious bill and needs adjusting again as soon as the business changes. Custom Fields gives masonry contractors that same flexibility without the price tag or the maintenance that comes with it.

Built to Bend
Every masonry contractor runs their business a little differently, and the systems they use to manage that business should reflect that. Custom Fields gives contractors a way to track what actually matters to them, without a second system on the side and without a six-figure build to force the fit. It's one more way CrewTracks is built specifically for how subcontractors actually work, not adapted from a tool built for someone else.
